A Trip to Winkworth Arboretum

Year 2 enjoyed a Forest Adventure Day at Winkworth Arboretum in Godalming as their Fantastic Finish of their “Fire Fire!” theme.  It was a beautiful, frosty, sunny day but very cold so we wrapped up well in lots of layers of clothes to keep warm.  Jon, Jackie, Sally and Helen from the Arboretum met the girls when they arrived and their adventure began.

These are some of the things that the girls enjoyed:

Collected ‘snappy’ twigs and sticks to put on the camp fire

Walked down very steep steps through the lovely trees

Played a game of Giants, Wizards and Elves in the meadow

Sat around the fire circle and learnt to stay safe with fire

Built dens in groups to keep safe from gales, pouring rain and the bears!

Ate snacks and lunch around the camp fire

Filtered dirty water to see how clean the girls could make it

Used flints to make sparks to see if they could light cotton wool

Had fun on the rope swing hanging from the tree

Drank hot chocolate around the fire with water boiled in a big kettle on the fire

Toasted marshmallows on long thin sticks

Sang songs

Kicked through the carpet of Autumn leaves

Went back to school very happy!
