Our prep department soaked up the literary delights of Wimbledon Bookfest’s Sunset Festival this week, hearing from two renowned authors.

Year 3 and 4 heard Michael Morpurgo talking about his book ‘Carnival of the Animals’ inspired by the French musical of the same name. Michael read thought-provoking poems about the likes of swans and crocodiles whilst two violinists and a pianist played tunes to represent the varying moods. The encore was fantastic and had all the girls bobbing along!

Year 5 and 6 visited Bookfest on Monday to hear Katya Balen, the Carnegie prize winning author, talk about her novel, ‘October, October’. Balen spoke about her experience of the writing process and how she develops her ideas as she writes. The girls enjoyed listening to an excerpt, introducing October, a girl who lives off-grid in a woods with her father, and an owl she rescues.

We are incredibly lucky to have this renowned literary festival on the doorstep of The Study in Wimbledon Village!
