Spencer House’s Short Story Competition

News

23.02.2018

We had another fantastic Spencer House assembly this morning when the girls and staff enjoyed hearing the winning entries of our short story competition.

As well as entering Radio 2’s 500 word short story competition, we decided to run our own.  The entries were imaginative and varied, ranging in subject and tone from the poignant and thought provoking, to the fantastical and comic.  The judges had a hard task to narrow it down to two winners per Year Group.

Congratulations to Mia, Charlotte, Maddy, Flora, Rosie and Riley whose entries were read aloud.    All six winners are enthusiastic writers and they put their success down to having a good imagination; Charlotte commented that ‘it was an exercise in imagination’ and Riley said, ‘imagination is the key to everything’.

Listed below are the titles of the girls’ stories and we will be publishing their entries in due course so everyone can enjoy reading them:

‘A Tiny Adventure’ by Charlotte

‘The Dragon’s Egg’ by Mia

‘Home’ by Flora

‘The Hunt’ by Maddy

‘Murder Least Expected’ by Riley

‘The Magic Feathe’r by Rosie
