Spencer House Public Speaking Competition 2019

The Spencer House Public Speaking Competition this week was a fantastic event.  All the girls who took part spoke articulately on a wide range of subjects, from Hypnotism and Being International to Michelle Obama and Catherine Johnson.  The Year 6 girls all spoke on the theme of “What a Hero is”.  Our adjudicator this year was Bud McLintock, Director of the Costa Book Awards.  Her feedback to the girls was lovely, picking up on what they had spoken about and their delivery; she was really impressed by their confidence as well as the content of their talks; some even managed without any notes at all.

The results are as follows:

Y4 Winner:                  Tienne Campbell, “Being International”

Y4 Runners Up:          Sophia Austin, “South African Townships “and Anoushka Babel, “India”

Y5 Winner:                  Chloe Hook, “Is a Jaffa Cake a Cake or a Biscuit?”

Y5 Runner Up:             Elsa Lane, “Catherine Johnson”

“What a Hero Is…”

Y6 Winner:                    Grace Goold

Y6 Runners up:            Abigail Mayooran and Farah Wager
