Animal Heroes Brought to Life!

Megan Rix, the multi award-winning Sunday Times bestselling author and avid animal lover came to talk to girls at Spencer House about her latest book, A Soldier’s Friend.  Girls in Years 3-5 sat spellbound as Megan explained the inspiration behind her latest tale of adventure and heroism set during the First World War, which tells the story of Sammy, a football crazy rescue puppy and Mouser, a fearless tabby cat, and their adventures together in the trenches on the front line.  Everyone loved hearing about Megan’s own cheeky dogs, Traffy and Bella, who have obviously inspired her writing.

Megan also showed the girls some fascinating artifacts from World War II and explained just how many different kinds of animals were involved with the war effort – from elephants to tortoises!  She gave the girls her top tips for writing stories and explained how she writes her own books.  The girls had plenty of questions to ask Megan, and were very lucky indeed to have had a chance to meet such an interesting author.
