Fun at Diwali

News

07.11.2018

Year 2 and 3 girls enjoyed learning about the Hindu festival of Diwali.   Diwali lasts for five days but today is the main day of celebration.  Lots of families will be gathering together this evening to celebrate with family and friends.

Year 2 enjoyed a visit from a Year 2 mum who told them all about the Hindu festival of Diwali and the girls enjoyed making diva lamps.  Hindus decorate their houses and temples with these little lamps.

In Year 3 the girls learnt that the festival of Diwali is dedicated to Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and they made beautiful rangoli patterns out of coloured sand.   Rangolis are beautiful patterns which people create on doorsteps during the festival to welcome the goddess Lakshmi, as well as family and friends, into their homes.  They are brightly decorated to reflect the joy at this time of the year.
