African Drumming Workshop and Storytelling

The Year 1 girls were in for a real treat when an African drummer came into school to hold a percussion workshop for the girls, using traditional African instruments.

Wendy Shearer, storyteller, then thrilled the Year 1 girls with her traditional African stories.  The girls loved hearing about Anansi the Spider, one of the great folk heroes of the world. He is a rogue, a mischief maker, and a wise, lovable creature who triumphs over larger foes in traditional Ashanti fables.  The day was fantastic, and the girls were able to enjoy a real taste of Africa with these workshops and by creating beautiful vibrant artworks with an African theme.
