Edie the Guide Dog Pays us a Visit

We were thrilled that Hilary Leacock came into both houses to speak at assembly with Edie, her wonderful three year old guide dog who is her constant companion.

The girls learnt all about the fantastic support the dogs give blind and visually impaired people. The training of puppies starts when they are just 7 weeks old, with walking and discipline training after which they go onto formal guide dog training for 6 months.  The guide dogs are matched to their owners  depending on the needs of the individual, so Edie is trained to be used to children, church choir singing and school bells!  The dogs are life changers for their owners and we were so happy to welcome Edie to The Study. Not all dogs are cut out to be guide dogs, they need determination and resilience, which is the Value of the month at school, so the girls learnt lots of lovely lessons.  Even Mrs Pepper fell in love with Edie, as we can see from the photos below!
