Prep

Throughout their Prep years, the girls study English, mathematics, science, French, geography, history, RE, ICT, DT, music and PE. The girls are set for English and mathematics. Classes are split into two smaller groups for ICT and DT.

Reasoning is introduced as a separate specialist subject in preparation for senior school entrance examinations and the girls sit twice yearly assessment tests.

There are two educational residential field trips to centres run by the Field Studies Council. These take place in the Autumn Term of Year 4 and the Summer Term of Year 6. As well as being great fun, these trips provide an invaluable learning experience.

Year 3

The girls remain at Wilberforce House for their first year in Prep, but the teaching environment becomes a little more formal. Girls have their own desks and begin using a formal homework diary.

Art is now taught by a specialist teacher using the purpose built facilities at Spencer House.

Swimming is extended into the winter PE curriculum alongside gymnastics, and the girls are introduced to team games: hockey and netball. In summer, girls play rounders and participate in athletics and gymnastics.

Year 4

In Year 4 girls move up to Spencer House where drama is now taught by a specialist teacher and tennis is introduced into the summer sports programme.

Years 5 & 6

In their last two years, the curriculum remains broad and stimulating but with increasing emphasis on preparing the girls for senior school entrance examinations.
