The Spencer House Public Speaking Results
Thought Provoking and Mature Speeches from the Girls
Our Public Speaking Competition was held on the morning of International Women’s Day, and we were highly impressed with the mature and topical nature of the speeches we heard from the Spencer House finalists today. Congratulations to all.
It was lovely to welcome back ex-Study teacher, Mrs Penny Morton, to adjudicate this annual event. Many thanks to her for giving us her time.

The Year 4 and Year 5 girls prepared their talks beforehand but the Year 6’s who spoke on ‘The sort of world I would like to live in as an adult’; only had half an hour to prepare! The girls showed a good awareness of current affairs and topical issues and discussed areas to improve - equal pay, environment, technology, homelessness are just a few topics they covered.
It was a hard decision, but the girls below all gave accomplished, persuasive and engaging talks, very well done to:
Year 6: Winner Charlotte Allen
Runners-up: Olivia Carp, Maya Richards
Year 5: Winner Alexandra Lees – If I were a school governor
Runner-up: Nina Hillnhuetter – Getting a puppy
Year 4: Winner: Harriet Wender – Equal Pay
Runner-up: Leonora Collett – Lord Mayor of London
