Whole School Production at the New Wimbledon Theatre

An Around the World Extravaganza

“This show embodied everything that is good about The Study, notably industry, creativity, inclusivity and teamwork, and the result was a total triumph.”  Mrs Susan Pepper, Headmistress

The audience was treated to an astounding showcase of talent, musicality, fun and teamwork on Thursday 23 March when the whole school community came together to enjoy the Study’s “Around the World in Song and Dance” at the New Wimbledon Theatre.

After the choir opened the show with two classic show tunes, our journey around the world began in the British Isles where Year 2 danced to “Land of Hope and Glory”, and “Love is all you Need” by The Beatles, and then performed a Scottish reel.

Dressed as penguins and snowflakes, the Reception girls sang and danced under a shower of snowflakes, before the Year 1 girls took to the stage and lit it up like rays of sunshine with their African themed songs and dances.

The Creative Dance group then wowed the audience with their spectacular Bollywood performance to the music of “Jai -Ho”, followed by a bevy of cowboys and Mexican dancers from the Year 4 group who represented America and Mexico with great dancing and music and finished their piece in true Broadway style and lots of sparkle with “New York , New York”.

Interval was followed by beautiful kimono clad Year 5 girls who danced elegantly with a rainbow of brightly coloured paper umbrellas and ribbons creating a visual feast for the eyes.  Year 3 girls took us on a mystical journey to Egypt and Arabia, and both danced and walked like Eqyptians to iconic music.

In true Hollywood musical style, the Year 6 Flamenco dance and Can-Can was a feisty and upbeat end to our journey, and the audience participated by clapping along to the rousing music.  The finale brought at joyful tear to our eyes as all the girls sang “What aWonderful World”

The staging, choreography, technical planning, lighting and music were all worthy of a West End production, but of course it was each and every one of the Study girls who made the show such a magical delight. Their commitment to rehearsals, learning the songs and dance moves, and performing to the very best of their ability on the night was a joy to behold and they commanded the stage as though they were seasoned professionals.

The Creative Arts team and amazine choreographers, led by the inimitable Amy Jo Brown, ensured that the show flowed seamlessly and all the girls had a chance to shine.  Many congratulations to all those involved.  Below are a few photographs from the performance.
