Year 2 and 3 Reading Competition

Reading is Fun!

One of the highlights of the Summer Term is the Year 2 and 3 Reading Competition.  All girls take part and select a passage to read aloud from one of their favourite books, as well as reciting a poem.  The finalists are selected and then perform their pieces to an external judge, this year Mrs Penny Morton, who was a teacher at the school for many years, was kind enough to do  the judging.  It was a very difficult decision, as the standard was exceptionally high.  However, after a thorough deliberation, Mrs Morton’s decision was:

Year 2 Yellow Winner: Jessie Yates who read from “Matilda” by Roald Dahl and her poem was “The Sea’s Treasures by Daphne Lister.

Year 2 Blue Winner:  Rebecca Dobby who read from “The Diary of a Killer Cat” by Anne Fine and her poem was “Caterpillar” by Mary Dawson

Year 3C Winner:  Nicola Pohlen Schatschabel who read from “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” by Roald Dahl and her poem was “Upside Down” by Aileen Fisher.

Year 3H Winner:  Clara Jagusch who read from “Excellent Excuses and other Good Stuff” by L Pichon and her poem was “Upside Down” by Aileen Fisher.

Very well done to all the girls, whose readings showed hard work, and lots of personal expression to engage the audience.  Many thanks to Mrs Morton for taking the time to visit the school as our guest judge.
