Sweet Summer Sounds

Study parents and guests enjoyed and idyllic afternoon of warm sunshine, cream teas and beautiful music in the peaceful surroundings of the vicarage gardens at St Mary's, Merton Park on Saturday 26 June. Reverend John Hayward hosted a summer tea party in his garden for parishioners, and The Study Chamber Choir and Jazz group treated guests to a wonderful musical medley of quintessential summer tunes, under the expert guidance of Mrs Brown. It was a most enjoyable and entertaining afternoon - well done to all the girls who took part!

Charity Speakers Visit our School

Girls with Mariah McConnaughey from WSPA

Mariah McConnaughey told us about the good work of the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA). She brought along Buddy, the sheep dog to meet us too! Emma and Annabel, Year 4, told Mariah about the 'Guess the Name of the Tiger' Competition they organised to help raise money for our charities.

Marie Donnelly from Cancer Research told us about the charity and how it wants to raise lots of money to help people beat cancer and make sure people in the future don't live with the disease as well. After assembly Marie met Alex and Flora, Year 6, who told her about their flag fund raising activity.

The Spencer House Football Club had their first ever away match against another school on Thursday 4 June. They put up a good fight against a local team from Wimbledon Chase Primary School. Naz, our football coach, was proud of the girls' fantastic team work, and we look forward to a home match soon.

Success on the Sporting Front

Congratulations to all the girls who took part in the London Day Schools' Athletics Meeting on Sunday 16 May. We had a fantastic set of results: the Year 6 and Year 3 teams were the overall winners in their age groups, while the Year 5 team came second and the Year 4 team came third. The Year 3, 5 and 6 relay teams came first in their races and we had individual firsts too in high jump, long jump, 100m and ball throwing. Now the girls are practising hard for our next meeting, with their thoughts on the Olympic motto: Citius, Altius, Fortius!

Study Girls Helping Others

Cancer Research supporters

Year 6 girls have chosen Cancer Research and the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) for our Summer Term charity focus. Yashmita Arora reports:

“We all did a presentation on a charity that we would like our school to support. We put a lot of hard work into our speeches and in the end we all voted for the charity which we thought was best. I did not mind because they are all worthwhile. Two charities gained the most votes so we are going to support both: Cancer Research and WSPA. Overall, this activity was a lot of fun, it improved our public speaking and it made us think more about how we can help mankind and our planet – including animals!”

Town Planners

Girl with her factory

Years 1 and 2 learnt about the logistics of town planning and construction when ‘Lego Town Planners’ visited The Study.

“We all worked together to build a town. We called our new town ‘Sunny Bee Flower Town’.”

Year One Yellow

“We made building out of Lego bricks. Some of us made houses but I made a factory. I had to put my factory on one side of the town and the houses had to go on the other side. People wouldn't want smoke blowing into their homes from the factory.”

Celebrating Easter

Easter Egg Hunt

On the last morning of term, Spencer House girls and staff enjoyed a walk across the Common to join Wilberforce House to celebrate Easter. The Spencer House Choir entertained everyone with a dynamic and moving performance of 'Resurrection Rock' and afterwards we held an Easter Bonnet Parade. We had a splendid array of hats and head pieces and, as usual, we were most impressed by the ingenuity and creativity of our girls (and their parents!). The morning ended with the traditional and ever popular Easter Egg Hunt.
