Head's Introduction

I am delighted that you are interested in the unique place that is The Study and I look forward to welcoming you to the school, a stimulating and caring environment where girls can flourish and achieve their full potential.

The school is on two sites: Wilberforce House on Wimbledon Common and Spencer House for the older girls, a short walk away in Wimbledon Village. Both Houses share the same aims and ethos and are welcoming and friendly places. As a mother myself, I know how important it is that a child's experience of school is a happy one. Our pupils leave us with many fond memories and a lifelong love of learning.

The Study is a busy place: learning is enhanced by an extensive programme of extra-curricular activities and by residential and non-residential trips, visiting speakers and workshops. The girls have many opportunities for charitable fund raising and involvement with the local community.

Entry at Reception is by ballot. Four year old girls have many latent talents and we believe that at this young age it is impossible to assess accurately their future potential. We want every girl to discover the very best that is within her and we help each individual to nurture her particular talents and abilities. Alongside the school's reputation for academic success, our pupils achieve excellence in music, drama, art and sport.

We take pride in the fact that our pupils gain places and scholarships at some of the best senior schools in the country and experience shows that they have the skills and confidence to thrive in their senior education. We are, however, far from complacent about what we achieve and our highly trained staff ensure that they keep up with curriculum developments and new technologies.

I hope that you will visit The Study and gain a flavour of what we have to offer by talking to our girls and their teachers and viewing our excellent facilities. Not only do we hold regular Open Mornings, but I also offer tours of the school throughout the year, where you have an opportunity to look around during a normal school day, and where I am on hand to answer any queries you may have about entry at Reception, or places further up the school.
